Russell Kelly

Russell Kelly is a Consultant at Ocean Legal and supports the firm’s marine finance practice.

Russell was a founding partner of LA Marine in 2000 and served for 24 years before retiring from partnership in 2024. He brings to Ocean Legal a depth of experience advising on marine finance transactions developed over decades of practice.

Russell advises lenders, borrowers and marine businesses on a wide range of finance matters, including vessel and fleet finance, refinancing, security structures and related transactional work across the commercial shipping, leisure marine and superyacht sectors. He regularly works with banks and specialist marine finance providers, as well as yacht builders, brokers, dealers and vessel owners and operators.

Russell is well-known in the marine and legal industries and is widely praised for his commercially focused and pragmatic approach and for his long-standing involvement in mentoring and developing future generations of marine lawyers.
