Richard MacKichan-Burke worked as a programmer for 10 years before retraining as a lawyer. After qualification in 2013 he worked initially in property litigation before branching out into more general litigation, latterly developing a speciality in data protection. He has worked with a mix of clients, including individuals, commercial entities both small and multinational, and a large number of schools and charities. He has conducted litigation from the Small Claims Track all the way to reported cases at the Court of Appeal.

He particularly enjoys combining his interest in IT with the law, and has dealt with high value hacking and data breach claims.

In all his roles he has been recognised for his client care and ability to explain often arcane legal concepts and language.

Richard 's Experience

  • Acted on behalf of a group of local residents in Bath seeking to stop a high profile development on a public space by the millionaire consortium owners of Bath Rugby.
  • Acted to recover substantial funds stolen by a hacker who had gained access to a conveyancing company’s system

I retain an interest in IT; I am also a keen cook. Mostly because I’m a keen cook, I also have to be a (slightly less keen) runner.

When I’m not fruitlessly trying to marshal my children or dog, I enjoy games (both board and computer), cryptic crosswords, reading and attending gigs.
