Darren Barwick started his career over 20 years ago at a regional commercial law firm as a paralegal working in plot sales for a large residential house builder.  He completed his training contract and qualified into a large commercial property team.  He specialises in transactional property matters with a particular emphasis on residential and mixed-use development work and secured lending.

He is experienced in site acquisition and assembly; purchase and development funding loans acting for developers; site set-up including drafting plot sales contracts, leases and transfers and managing plot sales.  He acts for several large developers and has done so for many years.

He also specialises in acting for secured lenders dealing with both bridging finance and development funding.  He acts for private and institutional lenders.  He is experienced in drafting and negotiating security documents and structuring loan transactions.  He achieves tight deadlines while ensuring that his lender clients are properly protected.  He also advises receivers and deals with the validation of security documents.

Darren possesses commercial acumen and problem-solving skills, collaborating with his clients to help them develop their businesses.

Darren's Experience

  • Acted for a developer in the multi-million-pound acquisition and subsequent disposal of prominent mixed-use building on the Liverpool waterfront.  Dealing with administrators, commercial lenders, the management company and freeholder.  Negotiating the contracts, the variation and apportionment of a headlease, removing notices, and amending various restrictions and obtaining consents.
  • Acted for an FCA regulated peer-to-peer lender providing a multi-million-pound secured loan for the purchase and subsequent development of a shopping arcade in South Wales with a complicated lease structure, development agreement, deeds of priority and deeds of variation.
  • Acted for a residential developer in the £3M sale of a development site, subject to planning with a deed of variation and deferred consideration protected by a legal charge.
  • Acted for a bridging finance lender funding the acquisition of a £1M mixed-use building in the Northwest completing the deal in under a week.
  • Acted for a landlord in the grant of a commercial lease, rent deposit deed and  licence to carry out works for a large retail premises.

Darren enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures and worked in Japan as an English teacher many years ago.

He likes to keep fit by running and working out and enjoys snowboarding and scuba diving when he gets the chance.
