Specialist IP and IT law firm Ionic Legal has strengthened its contentious IP and brand protection offering with the arrival of new partner Tania D’Souza Culora in London as the firm continues its rapid headcount growth. This brings the total number of partners to five in just over one year.
Ionic Legal has also grown its office footprint, opening in Winchester this month. The firm has already established a presence in London and Manchester.
Tania brings more than 20 years’ experience in contentious intellectual property matters with a strong focus on brand protection and anti-counterfeiting. She has worked with clients across sectors including electronics and technology, fashion and luxury goods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and has particular expertise in global anti-counterfeiting strategy.
Dual-qualified in both Ontario, Canada and England & Wales, Tania was most recently a co-founder of boutique IP firm Seastone and previously a partner in the IP group at Gowling WLG. Like the co-founders of Ionic Legal, she too began her legal career at Baker McKenzie in London and has significant experience working with large national and international brands.
Commenting on Tania’s appointment, Paul Cox, co-founder and partner at Ionic Legal, said:
“When we launched Ionic Legal last year, we knew we wanted to attract the brightest and best talent in IP to join us and we are delighted to welcome Tania D’Souza Culora to the firm. Her experience will complement and deepen our expertise in our core areas of trade mark prosecution, litigation and anti-counterfeiting. She is also someone we have known for 25 years and shares our core values.”
As part of its growth this year, Ionic Legal has also recruited paralegals to the firm, welcoming Jordan Carter and Isabel Shaw-Smith in recent weeks with Sarah Walker also set to join in early October.
Ionic Legal was founded in 2024 by former Foot Anstey joint heads of IP Paul Cox and Roy Crozier, in partnership with Excello Law, and operates from Manchester, Winchester and London. Its client base has grown rapidly since launch, with Ionic Legal advising many of the world’s largest brands on both contentious and non-contentious IP and IT matters. The addition of Tania, Jordan, Isabel and Sarah marks the latest stage of the firm’s expansion.
Ionic Legal was launched with the support of Excello Law. Through its pioneering House of Brands platform, Excello provides entrepreneurial lawyers with capital investment, operational infrastructure, marketing and law firm management support, enabling them to establish and grow their own firms. Excello is expanding its House of Brands model rapidly, with seven firms launched in 2025 so far, bringing the total number of firms launched in partnership with Excello Law to 13
